The Thiduv Rally Team is an emerging force in the world of rallying in Mauritius. The team is made up of talented riders, mechanics and enthusiasts who take on the challenge of competing on the demanding roads of the island. With their passion for speed and ambitious goals, they have managed to dominate local rally events and have made a name for themselves in the Mauritian racing scene.

Mauritius on course for a rally

The Mauritian rally is constantly evolving and in 2022, to the delight of fans of this motorsport, it had welcomed a new team among its competitors.

After many weeks of development work, which could be followed in real time on the Facebook page of the Thiduv Rally Team, Thierry Duvivier’s 206 RC 2.0 made its debut at the UMWL / ASA-Michelin Trophy 2022, which took place on the roads of Plaine Champagne and Nouvelle Découverte on September 3 and 4, 2022. The car was presented to a visiting audience on August 31, 2022 to admire the work this team has put together.

This first participation of TRT in a rally was only to gather information and experience with the aim of being well prepared for the 2023 season. The newcomers in rally proudly ended the 2022 season with seventh place overall and second place in their category!

MRC Trophy 2023: The rally is open!

The 2023 rally season kicked off on the 18 and 19 of March with the MRC Trophy, consisting of 12 stages, 6 at La Nicolière and 6 at Fantaisie.

As in the heyday of the Mauritian rally, two teams from La Réunion competed with their Peugeot 208 RC4s. Unfortunately, when they arrived in Mauritius with their cars, the vehicles were blocked by customs because their steering wheel was on the left. In the meantime, a law seems to have been passed that prohibits vehicles with left-hand drive from entering the country. The organizers of the rally were not prepared for this. As a result of such a law, Mauritius will never be seen as a destination for international motorsports.

For those who were able to participate, the rally took place in adverse weather conditions and it required focus, a good strategy and a bit of luck to complete the course without an accident.

In these conditions, it was Xavier Lachkar, driver of his Toyota Yaris GR 1.6T, who got the most out of the race and won at the end of the 12 special stages with a total time of 44 minutes and 26 seconds. He was just 15 seconds ahead of David Koenig and his Renault Clio 2.0. Third place went to Rayhan Alladeen in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6 2.0T.

Round 2: Eiffel Rally 2023

27 and 28 May 2023 – Haunted by bad luck

In view of the second event of the season, which took place on May 27 and 28, 2023, the team had to make some changes …

Since the co-driver Loïc Fleurot was absent, the team had called long-time friend Frédéric Nokiah and asked him to take over this job. After more than 15 years of absence from racing, he is now returning! The team is building on the experience and knowledge to continue to give rider Thierry Duvivier the opportunity to continuously advance his progress!

Unfortunately, Team TRT had no luck and suffered a major setback.

Already on the first stage of the race, the adventure ended for the team in a ditch. Fortunately, the car remained undamaged, leaving the drivers and the team unharmed. Nevertheless, the disappointment was great, as they lost valuable time and their chances of a podium finish were severely reduced.

The race controller then made a momentous decision: TRT was not allowed to compete in the second stage. This decision hit the team hard, as they still had hopes of a successful rally despite the mishap on the first stage. Nevertheless, they accepted the decision of the race controller and tried to make the best of the situation.

Despite the setback, Team TRT is still positive about the future and is already looking ahead to the future. The team is convinced that they will learn from their mistakes and emerge stronger from this experience. They are determined not to disappoint their fans and supporters and will give everything to complete a successful rally.

The next race is already in the starting blocks and is scheduled for July 22 and 23.
