Every beginning is difficult
"That is absolutely not the way we imagine a start of the season!", Uwe Geipel, team manager of YACO Racing, summarizes the opening weekend of the ADAC GT Masters 2018. He explains: "We knew that we would have a tough season starting with the first race in Oschersleben, but of course we had already hoped to build on old successes here. Back to the podium – that is the mission. However, the 34 other vehicles on the track also have this plan ..."
The first event in this year's "League of super sports cars" (April 13 – 15, 2018) was not yet a good one for YACO Racing. Although the Audi delivered competitive lap times, it could not reach the points. Decisive was again the qualifying. Both Rahel Frey and Philip Geipel had bad luck here and could not get good grid positions. The results in detail:
1st race, Saturday – place 28 (qualifying 27th)
Of course, every driver is wishing for a qualifying round, in which nobody bothers. However, this wish does not come true for everyone. Unfortunately, YACO Racing was not one of those lucky riders and only managed to finish in 27th position. From here, the Audi kept moving forward in an absolutely thrilling race, but in the end, the racing gods intervened again. In the last lap, there was a turn, through which the Audi was moved back to the end of the field. He crossed the finish line in 28th place.
2nd race, Sunday – place 21 (qualifying 33rd)
On the second race day, YACO Racing had no luck in qualifying. No free lap, no gap in the field, no undisturbed driving – the Audi finished again on a rear starting position. From here, both drivers set to an impressive catch-up, however, due to the number of vehicles on the track, they could only fight to place 21. "That is not what we wanted, but we are still very satisfied and positive. We keep an eye on the podium – maybe it will work out at the next race!", Rahel Frey and Philip Geipel said optimistically.
ADAC TCR Germany – Simon Reicher
In the 2018 season, YACO Racing will not only start with its proven team of drivers in the ADAC GT Masters but also compete in the ADAC TCR Germany with Simon Reicher and an Audi RS3 LMS. The first weekend ended with a mixed result. On Saturday, Simon Reicher took 6th place in a captivating rain-qualifying and then fought his way up to fourth place in the main race. On Sunday, he even started from rank 5, but then had great bad luck. In a chicane, he turned and stood across the track. Two more vehicles collided with him and caused great damage to his Audi. The race was over immediately. Now the mechanics are working hard to repair the car until next weekend – we keep our fingers crossed!
The bluechemGROUP congratulates the entire team YACO Racing on the first race weekend as an official sponsor. We are curious what the next event will bring! By the way, our bluechemGROUP Audi will also be here, which can be booked for race taxi rides.
